Happy Camp Achievement Program is a non-profit 501(c)(3) which sponsors the Happy Camp Family Resource Center. Happy Camp Achievement Program is operated by a six-member Board of Directors. The FRC currently employs one full-time staff member, two Americorps members, and is supported by a cadre of volunteer parents and community members. The FRC, in partnership with multiple county and local agencies, provides programs specifically designed to meet the needs of our community. Programs and services include parent education, emergency services (food, shelter, heating), child development activities and education, career counseling and job placement services, after school programs, community and economic development project planning, family nights, special events, Healthy Families and EDD online applications, MediCal and other medical referrals, family and individual counseling services, playgroup, literacy activities, nutrition education, Early Head Start and community social events.

Current Project Objectives (07-08) - Funded by First 5 Siskiyou for $40,000
  • Provide MediCal and Food Stamp Program online assistance
  • Provide Healthy Families outreach and online assistance
  • Coordinate with Karuk Tribe Dental Department to provide dental health information
  • Distribute age appropriate nutrition information to parents during home visits on a quarterly basis
  • Hold car seat and bicycle safety training classes on a semi-monthly basis or as needed
  • Provide tobacco education prevention information to parents, caregivers and preschools
  • Provide "Mailbox Buddies" Program with school readiness funds - increase distribution to kids in Seiad and Somes Bar
  • Provide story time, book giveaway and take home activities in partnership with the Karuk Tribe Head Start
  • Coordinate with Happy Camp Elementary School to provide Kindergarten Camp
  • Provide monthly Family Night with dinner and book giveaways
  • Provide indoor play space for young children with appropriate manipulative puzzles and other self-directed activities
  • Distribute quarterly Parent Child magazine through Early Head Start, Karuk Tribe Head Start, local schools and clinic
  • Promote enrollment of families in the Early Head Start Program
  • Hold ongoing parent education classes in Happy Camp and Seiad Valley
  • Coordinate with COS Foster Kinship Care Program to offer specialized, one-time parent education classes
  • Distribute New Parent Kits to parents and caregivers of infants
  • Provide home visiting for parents with children 0-5 with funds from school readiness
  • Hold monthly playgroup/parent support group at the FRC
  • Provide additional resources to families including family law, healthy familites, EDD application support, etc.
  • Sponsor Annual Kids Fair in Happy Camp
  • Coordinate with Happy Camp Elementary School for school readiness and after-school activities
  • Coordinate child abuse prevention activities
  • Coordinate with county agencies to maintain/increase local services and support
  • Coordinate with other First 5 funded projects to bring services to Happy Camp and the river communities
  • Paticipate in the Siskiyou FRC Network and support and promote other Family and Community Resource Centers
