Scott Valley FOCUS is a grassroots non-profit organization which seeks to improve the lives of everyone living in Scott Valley and the surrounding areas. Our staff consists of a Director, Program Coordinator, Americorp volunteer and Personal Services Coordinator. Our staff works in coordination with community volunteers to keep our programs running. Scott Valley Family Resource Center offers a wide range of services and programs such as resource and referral services, Parent Education classes, playgroups, Family Fun Nights, teen music night and concerts, a computer lab with open access, Healthy Families and EDD online application assistance, Early Head Start program, Mailbox Buddies, WIC story time and book giveaway, monthly newsletter, car seat giveaway, bike helmet giveaway, new parent kits, nutrition education and after school enrichment. Community building activities include the annual Swap Meet, Fort Jones Friends of the Library, Scott Valley Blue Grass Festival, Artesan Fair, and Annual Quartz Valley Indian Bike Rodeo. The long-term goal of Scott Valley FOCUS FRC is to provide a continuum of programs and services for community members from birth to 100 years of age.
Current Project Objectives (08-09) - Funded by First 5 Siskiyou for $40,000
- Story time and book giveaways each month at WIC clinic for children 0-5
- Twelve Family Fun Nights per year at different locations throughout Scott Valley
- Participate in SCNAC nutrition education awareness project
- Participate in Holiday Christmas Parade and distribute free books to kids age 0-12
- Provide Play Group activities in Fort Jones, Etna and Forks of Salmon for children 0-5
- Provide childcare and/or transportation to three parents of 0-5 year olds who are working toward their High School Diploma or taking English Second Language classes
- Provide car seat education and bicycle helmet safety classes
- Provide Healthy Families Outreach to preschools and community events - assist families in completing the Healthy Families Applications
- Resources available in parenting library
- Plan, coordinate and implement child abuse prevention activities for the month of April
- Deliver New Parent kits to parents and/or caregivers of newborns throughout the Scott Valley
- Educate community about benefits available through FRC
- "Mailbox Buddies" mailed to 120 children aged 2 to 5 years
- Sponsor quarterly community wide baby shower for expectant mothers
